Cool Media Projects for Teens



The Ingleside Library and WritersCorps will be co-sponsoring a series of media writing workshops for teens starting January 2010. The monthly writing workshops will run through April 2010.

Teens explore how to write in new, fun ways with different media: You Tube videos, still photos, pop music, and more. For more information, visit the Ingleside Library or call (415) 355-2898.

Opening Day Approaches

Everyone is excited about the grand opening which is getting closer everyday--there is talk of a September opening. Staff and patrons are anxious to move in and enjoy the first permanent home for the Ingleside Libray in 84 years. Counting Survey Pizza Party - June 23rd

Ingleside Branch won the Patron's Opinion Counting Survey Contest so a Pizza Party was held at the branch with Luis Herrera-City Librarian, Brian Bannon-Chief of Branches, Martha Neves-Asst. Chief of Branches and Ingleside Staff Members present. FoundSF.org: San Francisco History Online - June 6th

Found San Francisco is a wiki that invites history buffs and all San Franciscans to share their unique stories, images, and videos from the past and present. This growing online archive provides people with access to the city's lost history, with content contributed by hundreds of participants. From ferry boats to bike messengers and tours through the neighborhoods to redevelopment. Come learn how to use this new resource and contribute your own stories! Community Event - May 30th

Yard and Craft Sale is going on today, May 30th at the Ingleside Presbyterian Church at Ocean Avenue @ Granada. Community organizations along Ocean Avenue are there to greet you and offer you goods at very reasonable prices. Come and join the fun from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Proceeds from the fund raising goes to the new Ingleside Branch.

Asian Heritage Street Celebration - May 16th

The Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) is organized by the AsianWeek Foundation in cooperation with over 150 organizations in the Asian American community. The AsianWeek Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 committed to developing the Voices of Asian America. All proceeds from the Celebration will be donated to local and national charities. The Asian Heritage Street Celebration is held every year on the third Saturday in May in San Francisco, California.

Members of the Ethnic Services Committee will have a booth in front of the Main Library. See you there!

Persian Tales - April 26


The Fairytale Players of Golden Thread Productions present a fable in the traditional Iranian storytelling style. In the ancient city of Baghdad, artists from around the world gather to magically restore a girl's lost smile - but the solution lies elsewhere, as only those who watch very closely will find out! Outreach - Healthy Kids Day 2009



Another successful library outreach event!

The Ingleside and West Portal staff participated in the 2009 YMCA's Healthy Kids Day in San Francisco. The event celebrated across the country at more than 1,750 YMCAs, offering engaging and creative activities for children and families in promoting wellness and healthier living.

Home Preparedness in Earthquake Country - April 4th


Matt Springer, Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCSF, will talk about precautions that can be taken to lessen the damage from an earthquake at home and work. His presentation includes many photos of preparations in his own home and suggests measures ranging from simple to complex to prepare for the next temblor. This presentation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:30 pm at Ingleside Branch.

Remains of a Cloud by Ruth Cohen - March 28th

In her book, Ruth Cohen describes what it is like to be bipolar. She traces years of trying to come to grips with an internal force or venom, as she calls it, and learned how to deal with it. Past Event: Online Job Search Class

The Ingleside Branch Library hosted another successful program!

19 people attended this lively and high energy computer class on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. The class was taught by Richard Le, a part-time librarian.

Students learned how to locate and make use of the online job market & information, career outlook projections, online vocational training resources, job fairs listing and employment postings on the web. They also learned how to identify keywords for their job search and develop effective search strategy and techniques, and critically evaluate the results they find.

Woody Guthrie and the Great American Folksong - Feb. 21st

Author Tim Holt will present a brief history of the American folksong, from the old-time ballads of Appalachia to the ramblin' Depression-era songs of Woody Guthrie. He will discuss the origins of our folk music in the British Isles and West Africa, and will sing a variety of American folksongs representing various aspects of our history and culture. Tim Holt will be at Ingleside Branch on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

Alzheimer's Care with Dignity - Jan. 21st


Jane Fuerst had early-onset Alzheimer's and her husband Frank was her caregiver. Based on his book, Alzheimer's Care with Dignity, Frank will review the cornerstones that made the final six years easier; tell what to expect by phase; define what families and friends can do; and dispel myths about Alzheimer's. He will also reserve time to answer audience questions.
